Or a transient public accommodation establishment – a property rented out to guests more than three times a year for less than 30 days.
To operate a short term rental in Hollywood, Florida, hosts must obtain these three licenses:
- Vacation Rental License Certificate
- Certificate of Use Application
- Business Tax Receipt
The following is a complete guideline for Hollywood’s short term rental rules and regulations. This guideline will help anyone be a responsible host when using platforms like Airbnb, VRBO, and other similar services. This rundown should, in fact, give you a good start in understanding your local laws.
Vacation Rental License Application
Property owners can submit their applications through the City of Hollywood, Florida’s Vacation Rental License Webpage by entering the property address. The application for a Vacation Rental License requires additional documents, including documents from State and County agencies. Applicants should fill out and notarize the owner certification form and then upload it along with the application.
Moreover, each residential unit requires a separate City Vacation Rental License application.
All Vacation Rental License applicants should submit their applications online. The City, in fact, no longer accepts applications on paper. Also, on each 30th of September, Vacation Rental Licenses expire and must be renewed.
Certificate of Use Application
No individual, business, owner, tenant, or company may use any property without a Certificate of Use Application, except for single-family houses. Furthermore, the Division of Planning and Urban Design must have approved this application. Click here to learn more about the Certificate of Use Application.
Business Tax Receipt
Likewise, anyone with a business or a permanent branch in the city must obtain a City Business Tax Receipt. It includes individuals who engage in or conduct any business, occupation, or profession within the city’s jurisdiction, including home-based businesses. Vacation Rentals and Noise
The City of Hollywood Code Compliance and the Hollywood Police Department actively enforce the City’s Noise Ordinance rules. These Noise Ordinance rules particularly went into effect in 2021. Noise that is heard on the premises and the surrounding areas is unreasonably loud. Especially when it crosses the property line and disrupts the peaceful living atmosphere of residences and the tranquillity of a community. For this reason, Hollywood’s Noise Ordinance states that the Quiet Hours are between 11:00 pm till 6:00 in the morning.
Other Short Term Rental Regulations
As a responsible host, you must abide by other contracts or vacation rental rules and regulations that bind you. These include leases, community rules, HOA rules, or other guidelines set up by tenant associations. Feel free to reach out to your landlord, housing authority, or community council to find out more.
